The Quiet Body III (Holding Space)

Seen from above, a solitary figure extends his arms into an almost complete circle. His bowed head, curved body and open hands surround a pale central space that becomes as important as the figure itself.

The opening remains deliberately undefined. It might suggest silence, absence or something that cannot be represented directly. Equally, it can be understood as a protected interior — a space held open for memory, contemplation or spiritual presence.

The circular composition evokes unity, continuity and return, yet the small opening between the hands prevents the body from becoming completely closed. The figure appears inward-looking while remaining receptive to what lies beyond himself.

Holding Space considers the relationship between body and emptiness: how the body can create, protect and give meaning to the space it surrounds.

The painting completes The Quiet Body, a triptych exploring vulnerability, contemplation and the inner states expressed through bodily gesture. It may be displayed independently or together with the other two panels.
