The Quiet Body I (Withdrawal)
A solitary figure folds tightly into himself, drawing his knees towards his chest and enclosing his body with his arms. His face disappears into the gesture, leaving its meaning uncertain. It may suggest withdrawal or vulnerability, but equally an instinctive movement towards protection, stillness and rest.
The curved back, encircling arms and compressed limbs transform the body into a self-contained form. Against the quiet grey-green ground, the warmth of the flesh remains exposed yet guarded.
Withdrawal considers the body as its own temporary shelter — a private space created through the simple act of turning inward.
The painting belongs to The Quiet Body, a triptych exploring vulnerability, contemplation and the inner states expressed through bodily gesture. Each painting may exist independently or be displayed together as a complete triptych.
