Shadow IV — from the Shadows series
In Shadow IV, the profile of a bowed figure emerges from layers of deep blue, orange, yellow and green. The head is lowered and the face remains hidden, turning a recognisable human form into a quiet, anonymous presence.
Unlike the more active gestures elsewhere in the Shadows series, this figure appears absorbed in stillness. The bowed head might suggest contemplation, rest or simply a private moment of turning inward.
Layers of screenprinted colour overlap across the silhouette, allowing the boundaries between figure and background to shift and partially dissolve. Texture, irregular marks and traces of the printing process remain visible, giving the image a sense of movement despite the stillness of the figure.
Part of the Shadows series, the work explores the shadow as a space between presence and absence — revealing the body while withholding the identity of the person who casts it.
