Shadow II — from the Shadows series

In Shadow II, a dark human silhouette emerges from a field of intense yellow and orange. The figure is partially obscured by texture and overlapping layers of ink, hovering between recognition and abstraction.

Rather than describing an individual, the print reduces the body to a trace of presence. Areas of colour break across the figure and surrounding surface, allowing imperfections, fragments and marks from the screenprinting process to remain visible.

The contrast between the deep blue silhouette and luminous ground creates a sense of appearance and disappearance. The body seems present, yet difficult to hold onto — like a shadow passing briefly across a surface.

Part of the Shadows series, the work explores the human figure through silhouette, colour and absence, considering how little visual information is needed for us to recognise the presence of another body.
