Come Dance With Me

Come Dance with Me emerged from a reflection on how human connection often reveals itself through the smallest gestures. Two figures meet only through their hands, suspended in a moment that feels both intimate and uncertain — as if they are either drawing closer together or slowly turning away. The painting lingers within this fragile space between movement and stillness, closeness and distance.

Inspired by the weathered frescoes of Bologna, the work was built through layered tones of copper, rose, and muted patina green. These aged, luminous colours evoke the atmosphere of Italian wall paintings touched by time, while also recalling the symbolism of Venus and the quiet tenderness associated with love, devotion, and longing. The surface carries traces of gesture and erosion, allowing the image to feel less fixed than remembered — as though it has slowly emerged from memory itself.

Rather than describing a specific narrative, the painting invites contemplation of presence: the fleeting rhythm created when two lives briefly move together. The intertwined hands become a point of emotional gravity, suggesting trust, hesitation, vulnerability, and the human desire for connection.

Painted in Glasgow, Come Dance with Me forms part of my ongoing exploration of the body as a vessel for memory, atmosphere, and spiritual reflection. The work was exhibited in IKIGAI, a project inspired by the Japanese idea of discovering meaning and purpose through what draws us most deeply toward life.
