Aura emerged from the fleeting image of a figure reflected in water — a moment in which light, movement, and distortion briefly formed the suggestion of a halo above the head. What appeared on the surface lasted only for an instant before dissolving again into the shifting dark.
The figure exists here only through reflection. Its form hovers between presence and disappearance, shaped by the unstable language of water. In this way, the painting becomes less a portrait than a meditation on perception itself: on how memory, emotion, and lived experience alter the ways we recognise ourselves and others.
Layers of yellow ochre move through the darkness like a quiet internal glow, giving the impression that the body is illuminated from within. The surface was developed through fluid processes — oil paint poured and guided across the canvas so that pigment could behave almost like water itself, carrying traces of chance, movement, and erosion.
The work reflects an ongoing exploration of atmosphere, interiority, and the fragile boundary between the physical and the unseen. The halo-like form remains ambiguous: at once sacred and accidental, intimate and distant, as though something briefly revealed itself before retreating once more beneath the surface.
The painting was inspired by a photograph by the artist Piotr Igor Salata, whose exploration of the body through mysticism, faith, and reflection deeply influenced the atmosphere surrounding the work.
“Not only the thirsty seek the water, the water as well seeks the thirsty.” — Rumi
